No Bench. No Keeper. No Problem.

Our Premier League Men’s team reach the AAM State Cup Final (Bill Cullinan Cup).

Our boys have done it. A gritty, determined 3-1 win over a quality Georges River Tigers side at Kareela, has secured our spot in the 2025 Bill Cullinan Cup Final (AAM State Cup).

We knew heading in that this was going to be a serious challenge. Georges River are a well-coached, organised outfit and they showed exactly that from the first whistle.

The Redbacks started strong, opening the scoring early through Bailey Fowler, who finished neatly after a clever assist from Jordan Wang.

Georges River hit back not long after with an absolute rocket from outside the box, levelling the game at 1-1.

There was almost another for us before the break when Brayden Morris-Wolring buried a header, only for it to be disallowed after a push was spotted in the box.

Things got tougher from there. Already missing three Premier League players through injury, we also lost both of our starting centre backs by halftime, forcing a massive reshuffle at the back.

But the boys showed real character. Early in the second half, it was that man again, Bailey Fowler, grabbing his second of the day. This time it came courtesy of a great ball from Kosta Vasilikopoulos, putting us back in front 2-1.

The drama didn’t stop there. With 20 minutes to go, keeper Will Daly was forced off after a nasty head knock. To make matters worse, Harrison Jones was also sidelined after picking up a calf injury during the warm-up, leaving us with no fresh legs on the bench for the final stretch.

With no one left on the bench, the boys were running on fumes but refused to back down. Georges River threw everything at us, pushing hard for an equaliser. That is when we struck the killer blow.

Jordan Wang picked up the ball deep in our half, sprinted a full 65 metres, and sealed the result with a brilliant finish, assisted by Kane Arduin.

Every single player dug deep and left everything out there. It was a gutsy, courageous win and fully deserved against the odds.

Next stop, the State Cup Final.

Let’s go, Redbacks!
