Football United for a Greater Cause

Over the weekend, Caringbah Redbacks proudly joined clubs across the Shire and Australia in Play in Purple Round, standing in solidarity with those affected by pancreatic cancer and raising funds for the PanKind Foundation.

It was more than just football. It was a weekend of community, compassion, and people coming together for something bigger than the game.

A Return to Purpose

After a few years away from the initiative, 2025 marked a powerful return for the Redbacks. We embraced the purple once again with open hearts and purple socks to support PanKind, Australia’s only foundation solely dedicated to pancreatic cancer research and awareness.

With over 170 pairs of purple socks sold and more than $2,500 raised, the Redbacks community showed up in full force.

Players, families, coaches, volunteers: everyone played a part in helping spread awareness and funding the fight against one of the deadliest forms of cancer.

Why PanKind?

Pancreatic cancer is one of the most aggressive cancers, with a 5-year survival rate of just 12.2%. Early detection is rare, and treatment options remain limited.

PanKind is working to change that by investing in world-leading research, pushing for early detection breakthroughs, and supporting patients and families affected by the disease. Every dollar raised during Play in Purple contributes directly to their mission.

Also, thank you to all the visiting teams and families that helped make the weekend at Redbacks so special.

Rivals United, Redbacks x St Pats

In one of the most heartwarming moments of the weekend, players from Redbacks and St Pats came together under the purple arch for a photo that summed up the spirit of Play in Purple perfectly:

Rivals on the pitch, united off it.
When it comes to fighting pancreatic cancer, football takes a back seat.
At Redbacks, we invite everyone to be part of the journey, teammates, opponents, families, and friends.
Because community is at the heart of everything we do.

⚽ Matchday Moments

Our teams carried the purple message into their matches, proudly wearing the socks no matter the scoreline.

Check out all our social posts from the weekend, from MiniRoos to juniors through to our Senior squads, we’re proud to have had so many teams get involved.

🔁 Not Playing This Weekend?

If your team had a bye this round, no problem. We’re keeping the purple going. Just wear your socks next weekend (August 2–3) to stay involved in the cause.
Every pair counts. Every match makes a difference.
Reminder: Full team has to wear the Purple socks, we’re not permitted to have a mix of Purple and regular kit socks in the same team.

🕷 Proud Club, Proud Community

The entire Redbacks family = players, parents, volunteers, coaches, supporters – can be proud of what we’ve achieved together.

💜 We’ve raised awareness
💜 We’ve raised funds
💜 We’ve raised the bar for what football clubs can do off the field

Together, we’ve shown the power of grassroots football to unite for a cause. When it comes to pancreatic cancer, we’re not sitting on the sidelines.

From all of us at Caringbah Redbacks, thank you for making Play in Purple Round 2025 such a meaningful success.
