PLW Qualifying Final
Sunday 24th Aug @ Seymour Shaw
The Redbacks saved their best for finals football.
In a fixture that carried all the hallmarks of a local rivalry, our Redbacks Premier League girls produced a commanding performance to defeat fierce local rivals Miranda Magpies 3-0 in last weekend’s Qualifying Final.
Setting the Tone
From the first whistle, the Redbacks imposed themselves. The backline was assured and dominant, distributing with calm precision. The midfield set a relentless tempo, pressing high and moving the ball intelligently. And up front, the forwards hunted in packs, intent on forcing mistakes and carving chances.
It was clear early on that the Redbacks weren’t just here to compete… they were here to dictate.
Tess Strikes Twice
The breakthrough came courtesy of Ruby, whose perfectly weighted high ball split the Magpies’ defence. Tess raced onto it and, with trademark composure, lofted the ball over the keeper for 1-0.
Confidence flowed. Tess soon doubled the advantage, finishing clinically to make it 2-0 by half-time. But in the changeroom, there was no complacency. The players knew too well the danger of a two-goal cushion. The message was simple: intensity must remain high.
Relentless Until the End
Miranda, a side that had frustrated the Redbacks in league and state cup meetings earlier this season, struggled to find a foothold. Every attempted counter was broken down; every loose ball met with a red-and-black shirt.
Ava O epitomised the approach. Her tireless pressing finally forced a decisive error. She pounced on a defender, drove clear, and coolly slotted home for 3-0… the goal that sealed the result and sent the Redbacks’ supporters into full voice.
More Than Just a Win
This was more than just a victory. It was a statement. The Magpies had been a thorn in the Redbacks’ side all year. To beat them and eliminate them in a final was as satisfying as it was significant.
Behind the performance was preparation. Music in the change rooms had lifted the energy; a pre game highlights reel reminded players of their strengths. Out on the pitch, communication was crisp, encouragement constant. Heads never dropped, belief never wavered.
A True Team Effort
Every player contributed to what might well have been the best collective performance of the season. Disciplined, relentless, clinical.
The mantra remains the same: it’s always a team effort. And on this stage, against this opponent, the Redbacks showed exactly what that means.
Final score: Caringbah Redbacks 3, Miranda Magpies 0.
All attention now turns to this Sunday’s Grand Final! A showdown with the minor premiers, Gymea-1. They’ve been the benchmark side all season and it will be our toughest challenge yet. To lift the trophy, we’ll need to dig deeper than ever before, play out of our skins, and produce our very best football from first whistle to last.
The stage is set.
One club, one family, one fight.
